Publishing resources that I’ll share with my WTMP mentee
As you may know, I’m mentoring for the fall 2024 Write Team Mentorship Program. I will choose one mentee from the pre-chosen lottery applicants for a 4-month mentorship. I will provide a full manuscript critique, query and synopsis critique, and career advice.
First, some personal history: Try as I did, I have never been chosen for a full mentorship program. From 2018 through 2022, I applied for Pitch Wars, Author Mentor Match, YA for YA, Write Mentor, etc. I got three requests across all of these. None panned out. Turns out I didn’t need a mentor. I made it through the query trenches without the glitz and glam of a mentorship program.
Takeaway: Being chosen for mentorship means you have something very special in the works, but it also means you have more to learn. Humility is key here, and mentees must be receptive to new information.
For those who missed the application window (or are itching to learn during the wait), I wanted to compile the resources I will share with my mentee. I have read every post, watched every video, and read every book on this list. They shaped my work from concept to craft. If your goal is traditional publishing, I encourage you to consume as many of them as possible.
